AIRBRUSHING!

Wow. I can not believe airbrush makeup. I have been learning about it and how to apply it for the past couple days, and I have been completely amazed. I don't understand why more makeup artists don't use it! It looks absolutely flawless!

Once you are comfortable with it, it is so easy to apply, and it's amazing looking! I always thought airbrush makeup was very nice looking, but after I saw how quickly it can be applied and how many types of makeup can be applied, I was amazed!

I had no idea you could airbrush eyeshadow, eyebrows, even lips! It seems too good to be true! I am just so excited to keep working with airbrush makeup. I am definitely going to master this skill(; Airbrush tanning tomorrow!

Finding the Right Shade

Today at school we did the most helpful exercise to help us figure out our perfect foundation color. Everyone had two different colors on foundation put on their face, one very light and one very dark, and their partner had to use their foundation palettes to mix and create two foundations with the two colors to match the skin. It was a lot of fun, and it was such a big help.

I have learned that when testing a foundation to see if it's your shade, put a small amount on your jaw area and wait at least 60 seconds before you determine if it's your shade. This is because foundation actually darkens as it dries, so if you decide if it's your color while it's wet, it will not be the right shade.

Today we used our Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes waterproof eyeliner, and boy is it awesome! It is so creamy and easy to put on, and it does NOT run off. I washed my hands a while after putting it on, and it was so hard to get off. You do have to be very careful to not make mistakes when you apply it because of how hard it is to get off. It's definitely great for the hot weather, and if you will be swimming, or crying. (Tears of joy of course!)

Importance of Color Theory

The past couple of days we have been learning a lot about color theory in school. It really helps to know the color wheel when dealing with correcting features, or making them stand out on a face.

When dealing with concealing, you always want to cover the problem area with its complementary color. For example, if you are trying to cover up a blemish on your face, you will want to use a concealer that has some green in it. This is because green is complementary to red. The colors are across from each other on the color wheel.

When trying to emphasize a color, you put two complementary colors next to each other. For example, if you are trying to make blue eyes pop, you would use a coppery-bronze color eye shadow. This is because copper has an orange color to it, and orange is blue's complementary color.

Here are some complementary colors:
Yellow & Violet
Blue & Orange
Red & Green

I'm absolutely loving school, and what I'm learning. I'll post Wednesday!

A Beginner at Blogging

I just recently started makeup artistry school, and thought it would be a good idea to become a blogger. I have only been through week 1 of school, but will start sharing interesting things that I learn. The first week was about prepping the skin before makeup application, and finding the perfect shade of foundation, and concealer. I actually learned a lot that I had never known before.

The most exciting thing about this past week was getting the things for my makeup kit! The brushes are probably my favorite; they are all so soft and perfect.

One thing that I have realized this week is that I use my left hand AND my right hand to apply makeup. I'm a lefty when it comes to writing, but I use my right hand for everything else. So I have noticed that anything that is close to writing, like applying eyeliner, or blush, I feel more comfortable using my left hand. Everything else, though, like applying toner, moisturizer, and foundation, I use my right hand. I have come to the conclusion that I will start using my right hand for everything.

This morning I actually applied my eyeliner and mascara with my right hand only. It was a little tough, but it turned out nice!

I will start posting pictures of my work, and other makeup related things as soon as I really get going. I will post Tuesday after school, and update you on Monday and Tuesday's learning's!

I will post any week day that I have time. I currently go to school until 4:30pm during the week, and work from 5-10pm usually 3 days a week. Any day I do not work, I will post. =)
